Introduction

We are committed to ensuring that Railhouse Blues is a welcoming, respectful, and safe space for all attendees.

This policy applies to all activities associated with the event including: workshops, parties, and any activities taking place in shared spaces or accommodations.

Reporting

We take all reports of safety concerns and violations seriously. We have designated personnel and multiple ways to report any issues. If you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or witness any inappropriate behaviour, we encourage you to report it through one of the following channels:

  1. The nominated safe spaces person(s) (separate to the organisers).

  2. By phone or text to Emma Robinson on 0422928192 or Chris Webb on 042529137.

  3. By email to jukeboxbluessydney@gmail.com (read by all organisers).

  4. By anonymous online form (read by all organisers).

All concerns raised will be handled with confidentiality, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that you do not face retaliation for bringing up an issue.

While we strive to handle all reports as well as possible, if you feel that your report was not handled properly or you are not satisfied with how the situation was addressed, you can escalate to another organiser or safe spaces person.

Reports against organisers or volunteers will be handled in a fair and impartial manner by uninvolved parties.

Extension to Jukebox Blues Code of Conduct

In addition to the Jukebox Blues Code of Conduct, the following guidelines apply:

Behaviour Expectations

We want you to feel safe and respected when interacting with other attendees.

We expect attendees to behave in a way that promotes a safe and respectful environment. Inappropriate behaviour, such as harassment, discrimination, or violence, will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Verbal, physical, or sexual harassment

  2. Discrimination based on gender, race, sexuality, ability, or any other identity

  3. Bullying or intimidation

We also ask that attendees use inclusive language and avoid using language or terminology that could be considered offensive or exclusionary.

Workshops

We want you to feel respected and safe at the workshops.

  1. Show Respect for the Instructors & Each Other

    • All participants are expected to respect the instructors and fellow dancers during workshops.

    • Give feedback when it applies to your comfort and safety. Otherwise avoid giving unasked for feedback.

    • Treat feedback as an opportunity for growth, and avoid engaging in negative, critical, or disruptive behaviour.

    • If you have any concerns about the workshop content or teaching style, please address them privately with the instructor or event organisers.

  2. Inclusive Participation

    • Everyone should feel welcome to participate at their own level and ability. Respect and encourage others as they learn and grow throughout the workshops.

    • Help us create an inclusive atmosphere where all dancers, regardless of experience or background, feel supported.

  3. Boundaries During Partnering

    • You can leave a partnership or adjust your level of physical contact at any point.

    • Pay attention to your partner and respect their boundaries.

Shared Accommodation

We want you to feel comfortable and safe in the shared accommodation.

  1. Sharing Personal Space

    • Keep noise levels at a reasonable volume, particularly during quiet hours.

    • If you are staying in a shared room, be mindful of others’ schedules and sleeping needs.

  2. Conflict Resolution

    • If you experience any issues with your roommates or any other event participant, please address it calmly and respectfully.

    • If you need any assistance, event organisers and the Safe Spaces persons will always be available.

  3. Cleanliness and Consideration

    • Keep shared spaces clean and tidy. Dispose of waste properly, and be considerate of your fellow event attendees when using communal spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms, and lounges.

General Behaviour

It is possible to violate the code of conduct through the culmination of problematic behaviour not specifically outlined in the code. If this happens, a safe space person will approach you to discuss.

Consequences

Anyone found to be violating the expectations in this code of conduct will face consequences which depend on the intent and severity. The consequences faced will range from a direct warning, temporary suspension, and in serious cases, removal from the event and, if necessary, bans from future events. Refunds may be given but are entirely at the event organisers’ discretion.

Feedback

If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our event organisers, or consult with one of our Safe Spaces personnel during the event. This is a living document and we are committed to improving our policies and event administration so that this is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone.

Thank you for reading our policies and for helping us maintain a safe and inclusive atmosphere. We are super excited to share this weekend with you!
